BIRD ON A WIRE II
Like a frog in a lake
Like the icing on an old piece of cake
I have tried in my way to be deep
Like a duck in a pond
Like a song that goes on and on
I’ll work it all out one day
And If I have ever told the truth
It must have been way back in my youth
And If I have ever deceived you
I just did it for something to do
Like a book on a shelf
Like something compared to something else
I have looked for connections between things
Like a pig in a sty
Like a pupil in somebody’s eye
Or, like a cloud in the sky
And if I have ever sung out of key
Well who cares, it sounds fine to me
And if all my songs sound the same
Well there’s only one person to blame
Like a knob on a door
Like a slob passed out on the floor
I still mean nothing to you
